Between the Terminals

Recent policy developments, including the FCC’s addition of certain foreign-produced inverters to its Covered List and Executive Order 14421 on bulk-power system security, have reinforced the importance of domestic manufacturing for energy storage and electrical equipment. These measures could encourage further investment in U.S. production, but expanding manufacturing capacity takes time. The question now becomes whether domestic production and permitted imports can keep pace with the country’s ever-growing need for energy storage and generation, or if equipment availability will bottleneck the timely development of projects.

TLDR · What matters most

  • US utility Georgia Power has received approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) for seven solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) totalling 1,137MW through its CARES 2023 and CARES 2025 procurement programmes.
  • Indian solar manufacturer Premier Energies and RCT India, part of Germany-based RCT Group, have established a joint venture (JV) to develop a 12GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Telangana, India.
  • Solar tracker specialist, Array Technologies, recently opened a new $50 million 216,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, nearly tripling its previous capacity.
  • We Recycle Solar (WRS) – a dedicated solar PV recycling firm – plans to launch the facility near Dallas, Texas in Q3 2027.
  • Horizon Technology Finance Corporation and Roth Capital Partners’ joint venture, RoHo Capital Opportunity Fund, has extended a $20 million senior credit facility to U.S.-based energy technology company NeoVolta, with the option to increase the facility to $30 million, subject to mutual agreement.
